On March 11, 2011, Japan faced the Fukushima disaster. 6 years later, they are currently still suffering from this nuclear disaster. Overall, the government has estimated that this cost a total of about $188 billion dollars. Many people were evacuated and barely any have been able to return home. The Japanese public has lost faith in nuclear safety regulation, and a majority favors phasing out nuclear power. Japan's Basic Energy Law requires the government to release a strategic energy plan every three years, so debate over the new plan is expected to start sometime this year. There have also been many arguments over who should pay for this disaster. In my opinion, instead of taxing the public for something that was not their fault, the government should find another way. This whole thing is crazy.
