On the second Sunday in march and the first Sunday in November, daylight savings occur. It's hated by some, but loved by many as it means we gain an extra hour of sleep, but in some cases we lose one. The spring one gives us an extra hour of daylight to spend those summer nights outside with light. The winter one gives us an hour of more daylight in the morning. Other countries started this routine as a way to save energy. Originally it was to save energy with air conditioning/ heating and electricity usage to light your house. However, overall it has only saved about .5% of a percentage per year due to studies. Is this really worth it? It is really saving energy? Others believe that it has actually increased the energy usage by making it so people have to turn their air conditioner/ heater on earlier during the day which results in it running for a longer duration of time. Many studies have been conducted but it's hard to compare them to other countries. Many states have been used as a comparison but it doesn't compete with the country as a whole. No one have driven deep enough into a study to get a legit answer to this mysterious question. Personally, i think the government is so corrupt that it's possible daylight savings is just a way to get more money from electricity bills. Either way, it's terrible for the environment and I wish it wasn't happening.
